Spain cars - bring your car to Spain or buy a car in SpainYou may bring your car to Spain with you providing you have owned it for at least six months. It is important to note that you cannot sell, rent or transfer the car within 12 months of arriving. You have to surrender the British registration documents to the DVLA and obtain a certificate of Permanent Export. This sounds complicated, but it's really just a paper exercise which the DVLA will help you with. If you want to buy a new car in Spain - complete with sun roof and air-conditioning of course - you'll find that it is just as easy as buying a car in the UK or Ireland. One piece of advice though: buying second-hand cars in Spain is a bit more complicated! Spanish law obliges drivers to carry their driving licence with them at all times. You start the process of obtaining your Spanish driving licence from a caja postal - get form TASA2.3.You will need to do some more paperwork, but the licence application should come through reasonably quickly. Incidentally, a non resident does not require a Spanish driving licence
